Hearos ear plugs — getting ready for a Santana concert

image

Some people may think that wearing earplugs to a rock concert is just plain silly. Why would you bother going to a loud rock concert, and then mute the sound.

Rock concerts can cause hearing loss and tinnitus. If it is good enough for the musicians to wear ear plugs, then it is good enough for me.

The Hearos Rock ‘n Roll series ear plugs provide a noise reduction rating of 22, and are washable and reusable.

The Hearos Ultimate Softness Series provide a noise reduction rating of 32, and are not washable.

Expensive bikes parked in the utilitarian bike racks at Buzz Cafe, Tennyson

image

I had a laugh at the irony of very expensive carbon bikes parked in the utilitarian bike racks at Buzz Cafe in Tennyson (opposite the Queensland Tennis Centre).

What is that joke about buying an expensive, light bike so that you can eat an extra piece of chocolate cake at the Saturday morning ride’s coffee stop?

I shouldn’t laugh, were were also stopped on our Saturday morning ride — but no chocolate cake; not even sugar in our coffee. I guess our bikes are not expensive/light enough.

Nessun Dorma Coffee Roasters — super fresh coffee

Nessun Dorma Coffee Roasters has recently opened in the Yeronga Village Shopping Centre in the shop that used to be occupied by Ned’s Cafe.

The Ned’s Cafe decore has been totally stripped out and refitted, with a shiny new coffee roaster taking pride of place in the corner.

So how does the coffee from Nessun Dorma Coffee Roasters stack up?

Super fresh coffee, as you would expect from a barista that roasts on site. My long black coffee had a good crema and a full body, with just a hint of bitterness. Much better than the Ned’s Cafe coffee.

I want to get some freshly roasted coffee beans to use at home.

Eggplant success!

image

Our backyard was laid to waste some time ago by four chickens. In an effort to get some greenery back into the yard, my wife bought a few plants from Bunnings. The kids were with her and, to keep them engaged, she offered to buy them a plant each. My youngest chose an eggplant, which my wife was sure would die.

The eggplant has been a huge success. The first fruit was only golf ball sized, but the second one was this whopping great fruit!
