Start of the Sydney Hobart Yacht Race
Fixies of Sydney
Rushcutter’s Bay and boats starting the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race
After spending Christmas morning walking around Hyde Park, the Domain, Mrs Macquarie’s Point and the Royal Botanic Gardens, we decided to walk over to Rushcutters Bay which was only 30 minutes walk from where we were.
Christmas Day is the day before the start of the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race, which starts on Boxing Day. Many of the boats were moored in Rushcutters Bay preparing for the start of the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race.
Kings Cross
We walked home via Kings Cross which was again a 30 minute walk. Apparently the Coke billboard is famous.

Hyde Park, The Domain, Mrs Macquarie’s Point and the Royal Botanic Gardens
We had planned to go for Christmas Day walk through Hyde Park, The Domain and have lunch at Mrs Macquaries Chair. We got to Mrs Macquaries Chair earlier than expected so continued to walk on to Rushcutters Bay — see next blog post.

Where else in the world is there a swimming pool that overlooks a country’s naval ships.
Mrs Macquarie’s Chair
Apparently Governor Macquaries wife Mrs Macquaries liked sitting on this point and watching the harbour. Governor Macquarie had his labourers carve out the sandstone to make a seat for Mrs Macquarie. We stopped and had morning tea sitting on Mrs Macquarie’s Chair.

Taronga Zoo Sydney
The Sydney weather turned on a sparkling day for our visit to Taronga Zoo. We took a short 10 minute ferry trip from Circular Quay to Taronga Zoo. We got to see most of the exhibits but were a little disappointed to see that the lion and orangutan exhibits were closed. We are going to Dubbo Zoo in a couple of days so no doubt we will see them there.
