Truck stop 106 km west of Millmerran on Gore Highway

I have to have a rant about truck stops. In particular Queensland truck stops, which are disgraceful compared to their southern equivalents.

Southern truck stops are generally paved with sheltered tables and bathrooms. Many Queensland truck stops, notably on my trip those along the Gore Highway, are dusty areas to the side of the road with a rubbish bin if you are lucky. Quite frankly, I would prefer to keep driving than to pull off the road into one of these rest areas. They are disgraceful!

Firstly, truck stops are always filthy. Truckers, this is mostly your fault because you should be disposing of your rubbish properly.

Amenities provided are generally filthy too. They are mostly drop dunnies (there is not much else you can provide in the middle of no where), but they are not maintained. Some are fly-blown so badly that I took to urinating on the side of the road, rather than using the provided bathroom facilities.

Governments: if you want travellers to take rest breaks — as you MANY signs proclaim), then give them adequate facilities to stop at!

Truck stop on the side of the Gore Highway was simply a patch of dirt with a sign and a garbage bin that obviously was not used much
